ZyStor Therapeutics has assembled a qualified team of executive officers, directors and scientists to lead the Company in the successful development and commercialization of its technology, many of whom were previously associated with Symbiontics, Inc., from which the GILT technology was acquired.  These individuals possess significant experience in rapidly building successful pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.  They include:

Loren G. Peterson serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of ZyStor.  He most recently served as the Chief Executive Officer of Sheffield Pharmaceuticals from April 1997 to April 2002 and as President from December 1997 to April 2002. From January 1997 to April 1997, Mr. Peterson served as a Principal of Camelot Pharmacal, LLC, a privately-held pharmaceutical development company.  Prior to Camelot Pharmacal, Mr. Peterson served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Bock Pharmacal Company, a privately held pharmaceutical company from 1993 to 1996, until its acquisition by Sanofi-Synthelabo Group.  Previously, from 1989 to 1993, Mr. Peterson was also a partner at Coopers & Lybrand LLP, where he spent 15 years as a certified public accountant.  Loren has a B.S. in business administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Jonathan H. LeBowitz, Ph.D. is the Executive Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer of ZyStor.  Dr. LeBowitz is an accomplished investigator with over 25 years of research experience in the biochemistry, molecular, and cell biology of organisms ranging from microbes to humans.  Prior to joining ZyStor, Dr. LeBowitz was a tenured Associate Professor of Biochemistry and a Burroughs Wellcome New Investigator in Molecular Parasitology at Purdue University.  He currently serves as a Member of the Advisory Board at Venture Investors.  Dr. LeBowitz was a post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and received a Ph.D. in biochemistry from The Johns Hopkins University.

George G. Arida is Chairman of the Board of ZyStor and a Managing Director at Venture Investors, LLC, a Madison-based venture capital firm where he focuses on healthcare investment opportunities and portfolio companies.  Mr. Arida joined Venture Investors in 2000 and prior to this, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for a Chicago-based financial consulting and brokerage firm and spent five years at United States Filter Corporation in various management and marketing positions.  Mr. Arida also spent four years at Betz Laboratories in technical sales and field service management and two years at Alar Engineering as a Process Engineer.  He serves as Board Chairman for Nerites Corporation and as a Director at ProCertus BioPharm Inc., Chromatin, Inc., and Celleration, Inc.  Mr. Arida is also a Founding Director of the Mid-America Healthcare Investors Network.  He received a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.

Constantine Anagnostopoulos, Ph.D. is a Director of ZyStor and Chairman of Deltagen, Inc.  He is also a Director of Dyax Corp. and a member of its Corporate Governance, Compensation and Nominating Committees.  Dr. Anagnostopoulos is a retired corporate officer of Monsanto Company having served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Monsanto Europe-Africa-Middle East, Head of its New Enterprise Division, Director of Research and General Manager of a number of operating divisions.  He is also a retired Managing Director of Gateway Associates, a venture capital firm.  Dr. Anagnostopoulos was on the Board of Genzyme for over twenty years, serving as its Lead Director and also as a member of its Corporate Governance, Compensation, Nominating and Audit Committees.  Dr. Anagnostopoulos has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Harvard University and holds over 20 patents in organic and polymer chemistry.

Brian Clevinger, Ph.D. is a Director of ZyStor and co-founder and Managing Director at Prolog Ventures.  He has actively participated in all phases of commercial technology development for nearly two decades.  Before Prolog, Dr. Clevinger was the Chief Executive Officer at Megan Health, a position he held from Megan's inception until its acquisition by AVANT Immunotherapeutics.  Previously, Dr. Clevinger was the President at A/W Company.  Working with Washington University researchers, he evaluated numerous technologies, selected the most commercially promising ones for funding, and served on the Board of each resulting enterprise.  Before joining A/W Company, Dr. Clevinger held a tenured position and headed a research laboratory at Washington University.  He is a Director at AirXpanders Inc., APT Therapeutics Inc. and Altheus Inc.  He holds a Ph.D. in immunology from Indiana University and has completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Washington University.

Trevor D’Souza is a Director of ZyStor and has been a Managing Director at Mason Wells Biomedical Fund since 2000.  Prior to joining Mason Wells, Mr. D'Souza obtained extensive experience in consulting and management in the technology and biomedical industries.  He was the President & CEO of PharmaSoft North America, Inc., a provider of software products and services for the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries.  Prior to that Mr. D’Souza was a Senior Program Manager with Booz Allen & Hamilton, Inc. and Director of Information Systems for McKesson BioServices Corporation.

Allan Goldberg, Ph.D. is a Director of ZyStor and co-founder and Managing Partner of The Channel Group LLC (“TCG”), a New York-based life sciences venture management and advisory firm, and co-founder and Managing Partner of BioMed Transition Partners.  Prior to TCG, Dr. Goldberg was a General Partner of PrimeTech Partners. In those capacities, he was involved in the co-founding and capitalization of several biopharmaceutical companies.  He also co-founded Innovir Laboratories, Inc. in 1989 and served as its Chairman, President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Scientific Officer.  Dr. Goldberg serves as Chairman of Symbiontics, Inc. He serves as Chairman and Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of SuperGen, Inc. (NasdaqMN:SUPG) and has also been a Director since March 2005.  He is a co-founder and member of the Board of Lesanne Life Sciences, LLC, a Connecticut-based stroke diagnostics company. Previously, Dr. Goldberg was a professor of virology and a Richard King Mellon Foundation Fellow at The Rockefeller University from 1971 to 1989.  He was editor of the Journal of Experimental Medicine from 1976 to 1989 and was a consultant to the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation at various times since 1975.  He was a post-doctoral fellow of the American Cancer Society at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Goldberg received his B.A. from Cornell University and his Ph.D. in biochemistry and biology from Princeton University.

Mina Patel Sooch is a Director of ZyStor and a founder and general partner at Apjohn Ventures, a life sciences venture capital firm with nine portfolio investments.  She has extensive pharmaceutical and healthcare experience as an entrepreneur, strategy and finance advisor, and venture capitalist.  Ms. Sooch is also a founding principal of Apjohn Group, a life sciences business accelerator, and was an entrepreneur in residence at North Coast Technology Investors, a $100 million early stage venture capital firm.  Ms. Sooch spent eight years as a global account manager at Monitor Group, a global strategy consulting firm based in Boston working with healthcare and private equity clients with a focus on corporate finance, strategy, and mergers and acquisitions.  She received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in chemical engineering from Wayne State University.
